Critical Language Scholarship Program

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is a fully-funded overseas language and cultural immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students. Students of diverse disciplines and majors are encouraged to apply. Participants are expected to continue their language study beyond the scholarship period, and later apply their critical language skills in their future professional careers. Country locations include India, China, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, and more.

Ambassador Summer Scholarship Program

The Taiwan-United States Sister Relations Alliance (TUSA) Summer Scholarship Program is an Ambassador program especially designed for students who represent their state as well as the United States, acting as ambassadors to Taiwan. The program is open to college/university undergraduate/graduate students who are interested in studying Mandarin (Chinese) language and learning about Taiwanese culture.

Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program

The Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program places U.S. citizens in classrooms abroad to provide assistance to the local English teachers.

English Program in Korea (EPIK)

EPIK is affiliated with the Korean Ministry of Education. The program invites responsible, enthusiastic native English speakers with a motivation to share their knowledge and language with Korean students and teachers to Korean public schools throughout the country.

The JET Program

The JET Program is sponsored by the Japanese government to promote internationalization at the grassroots level by bringing young, college-educated individuals to work in communities throughout Japan.

Interac

Interac recruits Assistant Language Teachers (ALT) of native-English to work in elementary, junior high, and high schools throughout Japan. The job is two-fold: language instructor and cultural ambassador.

MOE Foreign English Teachers Program

The Taiwan Foreign English Teacher Program is run through the Taiwan Ministry of Education (MOE). The goals of the program are to broaden English immersion experiences of Taiwan’s young minds and to establish inter-school relationships between the English speaking Countries and Taiwan.

Asia Exchange

Asia Exchange organizes internships for students in Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, and China.

CisAbroad 

CisAbroad has a range of internships.

CIEE Teach Abroad

The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) oversees English teaching jobs in China, South Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand.

ISA/GlobaLinks Learning Abroad

ISA offers diverse internships in select countries, including China, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Fulbright Study/Research Grant

There are several types of Fulbright grants. Applicants typically design their own projects and work with advisers at foreign universities or other institutes of higher education.

Boren Fellowship

Boren Fellowships is an initiative of the National Security Education Program, providing unique funding opportunities for U.S. graduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad.

Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship

Established in 1954, the Japanese Government Scholarship provides funding for undergraduate and graduate students who want to study or do research in Japan.

Abe Fellowship

The Abe Fellowship is designed to encourage international multidisciplinary research on topics of pressing global concern. Research support to individuals is at the core of the Abe Fellowship Program. Applications are welcome from scholars and nonacademic research professionals.

American Center for Mongolian Studies Field Research Fellowship Program

The ACMS Field Research Fellowship Program supports students, post-doctoral scholars, and faculty to conduct field research in Mongolia every year.

Confucius China Studies Program

The Confucius China Studies Program Joint Research Ph.D. Fellowship fosters an interest in China by supporting China-related study among the international academic community’s rising generation of young scholars. This program provides substantial funding for Ph.D. dissertation research in China.

Academy of Korean Studies Grant

The AKS Research Grant is a non-degree program which invites and supports international students for six months to provide them with a momentum to grow to be a next generation of promising scholars in Korean studies and to play a leading role in the field abroad.

East-West Center Scholarships/Fellowships

The East-West Center offers a wide variety of both short- and long-term programs for individuals. Academic scholarships and fellowships as well as educational exchange and professional development programs are available.

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme

The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship program aims to attract the best and brightest students from around the world to pursue PhD programmes in Hong Kong.
